Magic trick supplies

Common magic trick supplies include special ropes, cards, coins, handkerchiefs, cups, and many other items available at magic stores. Unfortunately, local magic stores are beginning to die out due the convenience of researching and purchasing supplies on the internet. Most magic stores, however, provide a gathering place where other magicians can come to learn and support each other.

A tendency most beginners have is to purchase a variety of magic trick supplies, and then attempt to learn them at home. What they do not consider is whether those particular magic effects are appropriate for their skill level, and they can get quite expensive. Buying single tricks can cost as much as a book or a DVD. For serious beginners, it is recommended to learn fundamental skills from videos and books. Books provide the most for your money because they offer the most techniques and tricks as opposed to DVDs. DVDs cost more and contain fewer tricks, however, they have the advantage of letting you see the effect in action. Both resources are useful.

A couple of magic tricks often performed in variations by professionals that beginners can start with basic supplies are called “Professor’s Nightmare” and “Color Changing Handkerchief.” The Professor’s Nightmare magic trick is basically a special type of rope that relies on a technique where you stretch three ropes of different lengths to an equal size, and stretched again to return to their original form. The Color Changing Handkerchief is also known as the “chameleon hanks” and is a classic in magic performance. The only requirement is different colored handkerchiefs and a well practiced gimmick with your hands.
